Welcome

to the ELIXIR-GR node of Democritus University of Thrace

ELIXIR-GR is the Greek National Node of the ESFRI European RI ELIXIR, a distributed e-Infrastructure aiming at the construction of a sustainable European infrastructure for biological information. ELIXIR-GR supports life-science research and its translation to medicine, biological sciences and society. It offers a catalogue of tools, services and benchmarks, ensuring best practices as well as sustainability and interoperability with other biological and medical science infrastructures.

Democritus University of Thrace is participating node in ELIXIR-GR, focused on developing algorithms and pipelines in genomic analysis, with applications in humans, animals and plants.

The projects

In this section we present the tools, training platforms and pilot projects we work on, made available through ELIXIR-GR.

PCA SNPs

Our algorithm for identifying PCA-correlated SNPs takes as input a properly encoded SNP data matrix and outputs a score for each SNP. SNPs corresponding to the highest scores are typically the most informative in reproducing the structure of the population.

VariantRanker

Performs ranking of variants in genomic datasets, integrating information from multiple sources to prioritize each variant by its deleteriousness, novelty and existing information.

NetworkAnalyzer

The Network Analyzer is a tool to visualize the output from the database for annotation, visualization and integrated discovery (DAVID, https://david.ncifcrf.gov) in order to reveal overlapping biological connections for a list of relevant genes.

GWAS Pipeline

Implementing genomewide association studies for the identification of genes that underlie disease – educational material.http://genomap.mbg.duth.gr/index.php/23-educational-material

Transcriptomics

To be described.

ncRNA biomarkers

A pilot study for the discovery of ncRNA biomarkers. Functional annotation of epigenetic and transcription regulation factors. Extraction of molecular signatures. Clarification of the regulatory pathways in homeostasis and malignancy.
